Known as The Happiest 5k on the Planet, we were excited when The Color Run came to Boise. As a group, we had a fantastic time at the Super Run last month, so this felt like a perfect opportunity to do it all over again.
The Color Run is all chalk dust, paint, bubbles, and smiles, but we weren’t sure what Caleb was going to think. He just turned two years old and is still figuring this whole big world around him. Fortunately, we had nothing to worry about!
Most races are just that — races — so everyone is worrying about their pace. The Color Run is the opposite. It’s all about taking your time and enjoying the experience. In fact, there were many people walking backward to avoid missing out on getting fully coated in glitter!
Wearing the white shirts that came in our race packet, we showed up ready for a day of fun and that’s exactly what we got! Caleb started off in his stroller, taking in all the sights and surveying the lay of the land, but by the end of it, he was running through dust clouds and having a blast.
His little curly head was absolutely covered in multicolored powder and he loved every minute. The music also helped because that kid definitely loves to dance!
When we rounded the corner and saw the Finish Festival, we couldn’t even believe our eyes — there were bubbles everywhere! Without any real hesitation, we jumped right in, stroller and all! It helped get some of the residue off our bodies, which was great because we were covered!
After traipsing through the bubble-covered finish line, we headed over to the Finish Festival. The focal point of this area was a huge dance party and we were ready to boogie! Caleb loved the action up on the big stage and pulled his daddy off to the side for a bit of a dance-off. It was sooooo cute!
It feels great to set a good example and show our kids that, at any shape and/or size, being physically active is important (and a lot of fun)! We’re not going to talk about what the seats in our van looked like after we climbed in, though…
