When we found out that Boise State University was hosting University of Virginia, we knew we had to go. Not only is Virginia Josh’s home state but I also used to work at UVA. People around here are INTENSE with their love for BSU so we weren’t really sure what to expect — but we couldn’t pass up BSU vs UVA!
It took a long time to get into Albertsons Stadium and our seats were way up at the top. It was a chilly day, but we couldn’t help but be awestruck by the amazing view.
With the mountains as a backdrop as the sun slowly set, we let our eyes drift from the action for a few moments to appreciate the beauty. Just wow!
A Change of Seats
We decided not to go all out on our Virginia-supporting outfits (plus, we haven’t fully unpacked the garage and couldn’t find all our gear), but we still got a quite a few stares from the people sitting around us. In fact, we felt downright unwelcome, which was kind of shocking! We knew it’d be that way for BSU vs UVA (or vs ANYONE), but it was disappointing.
Scanning the crowd, Josh found the small section reserved for Virginia fans. Throwing caution to the wind, we made our way down there. We didn’t pause at the entry point to avoid being asked for our tickets. Fighting off some anxiety, we just confidently walked right in hoping my UVA hat and Josh’s Virginia clothes would be enough — and it was! Yes!
We were absolutely freezing, but the game got substantially better when we were surrounded by fellow UVA fans! We did the cheers, we sang the songs, and we literally jumped up and down when UVA routed BSU 42-23. Sorry, folks. That’s a wrap!
When the game was coming to an end, I snuck down and took a picture with Cav Man for old time’s sake. For a few moments, we were nostalgic and the ride home was serene and quiet. We don’t necessarily miss Virginia, but for a few minutes, it felt like we were home.
